Living room chandeliers are the widest and brightest VARGO chandeliers in our catalogue: in a living room they have to light the sofa, the table and the whole room. More than half are LED chandeliers with an infrared remote and an adjustable light tone; the rest have an E27 or GX53 base.
One chandelier for day and evening
By day, neutral light of around 4000 K suits a living room; in the evening in front of the TV or with guests, a warmer, dimmer light of around 3000 K is better. For almost all our LED living room chandeliers the colour temperature changes from 3000 to 6500 K, and for most you can also adjust the brightness with the remote. The remote works when pointed at the chandelier.
What size of chandelier suits a living room
Width is from about 28 to 94 cm, most often 58–80 cm. Rule of thumb: add the room’s length and width in metres and multiply by 8 — that is a suitable diameter in centimetres. For a 4 × 4 m living room that is about 64 cm, for 4 × 5 m about 72 cm, for 5 × 6 m about 88 cm. In a long room, or a room with a separate dining area, one chandelier will not light everything evenly — then two lights are better.
How much light you need
How bright a light is shows in its luminous flux in lumens (lm). For living room chandeliers it is from about 4300 to 35,000 lm, and the power of the LED chandeliers is from 48 to 392 W; the “Power” filter above the list helps you find the right one. For a large room, choose a more powerful model: if there is too much light, an LED chandelier with a remote can be dimmed. See also: lumens per square metre.
Low and high ceilings
LED living room chandeliers are 6 to 19 cm tall, and about a third are no taller than 10 cm — they also suit low ceilings. Chandeliers with a base are up to 28 cm tall; with high ceilings they look more proportionate. See also: ceiling lights for low ceilings.
LED chandelier or chandelier with a base
In LED chandeliers the light source is built in: there are no bulbs to buy or replace, and the remote is included. Chandeliers with a base take from 2 to 10 E27 or GX53 bulbs, and bulbs are not included — they can be ordered in Bulbs and other products.
Extra light in the living room
A chandelier gives general light, but a room is cosier with one more light source. By the sofa or the TV, wall lights work well; above the dining table, pendant lights or a dining room chandelier. If the room gets hot in summer, take a look at ceiling fans with lights.
Colour and materials
More than half of the living room chandeliers are white. There are also black ones, black with gold or wood details, chrome and grey. The body is usually metal with an acrylic diffuser; there are also models with glass and wooden elements. See all models in Chandeliers.
